Lessons and Carols: Watch Here! Sunday, 12/20 4pm ET

Published by Harvard Glee Club on

Deck the halls, don your ugliest sweater, and put a star on the 2020 holiday season with Lessons and Carols, a festive virtual concert from the Harvard Glee Club and the Ashmont Boy Choir – a Dorchester community chorus of boys ages 7-18. After a deep history of collaboration, the two groups are thrilled to combine their voices and broadcast nine classic Christmas carols across the world.

The program is inspired by the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, an international Chrismastide celebration that – like the Christmas holiday itself – came from humble beginnings. The Festival was first performed in a wooden shed outside Cornwall, England, eventually spreading to the famous choir of King’s College and from there, around the world. For many, this sequence of hymns, carols, and readings – opening with “Once in royal David’s city” – is a hallmark of the holiday season. At a time when normal rituals and traditions have been thrown into disarray, we invite you to a joyous celebration of our own.

We’re also thrilled to feature a historic collaboration: the Harvard Glee Club singing Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria alongside dozens of Harvard Glee Club alumni from across the generations.
We are grateful for the generous support of our alumni in 2020 and send our warmest wishes to you and your family for a joyous Holiday Season and a Happy New Year full of glee, good humour, unity & joy!
